The CFDG Regions

You can choose to join CFDG as either a London & Southeast member or as a member of one of the other regional groups.  These have been introduced since 2001, with the aim of providing regular members’ meetings and other events for those who do not have easy access to London.

Aside from London & Southeast, there are currently three regional groups:
• CFDG Northern for the area around and north of Manchester and Leeds.
• CFDG West Midlands for the area around Birmingman.
• CFDG Southwest & Wales for the area around Bristol, Exeter and Cardiff.

Visit our regions networking page for more information

What do I get for my membership fee?

CFDG offers an extensive range of benefits, find out more on our benefits page.

How is the membership fee calculated?

Membership fees are staggered in bands according to charities’ incomes. Different rates will also apply according to whether you join as a London & Southeast member or as a regional member. This difference in fees aims to ensure fairness and value for money to members. The difference in London and regional rates reflects the greater frequency of meetings in London at this time.

The CFDG membership year runs from April to March.  For applications made between July and March, pro rata fees will apply.  Please contact the office for further details: 0845 345 3192 or info@cfdg.org.uk.

How do I know what fee I have to pay?

There are different membership fee bands for London charities and charities in the regions, which are based on the charity’s level of income.

New members can chose which region they want to join, and thus have some influence on their membership fee.
All services are the same for all members, independent of their income level and location. The main difference in whether you belong to the London & Southeast group or one of the regional groups is the location of members’ meetings that you can attend for free as part of your membership.

These meetings are a core service of CFDG and form part of our education and information purpose. Attending members’ meetings in your region is free. You are also welcome to attend members’ meetings in other regions. However, attendance at meetings outside of your nominated centre will be charged at £25 per time.

For example: if you are a member of the West Midlands regional group, but want to attend a London meeting to hear specific speakers, you can do that, and will be charged the extra admin fee for that meeting accordingly.
If you want to attend London meetings by default, while your charity is actually based closer to one of the other regional centres such as Bristol, you can choose to become a London & Southeast member instead and pay the appropriate annual fee. You can then attend London meetings for free within your membership and additional fees only become applicable should you want to attend a members’ meeting in another region.

What are Primary and Secondary Members?

If you are the first or only member from your charity, you will pay the Primary Member rate.

All subsequent members from your charity will pay the Secondary Member rate.  There is no limit to the number of Secondary Members a charity may have.

N.B. For charities whose income is more than £10m, the Primary Member fee includes an entitlement to have one Secondary Member at no extra cost. To register your free Secondary Member please ask a colleague to complete the Secondary Member Application form and return it with your application.

What extra costs will I have?

For a complete list of CFDG membership services, visit our membership benefits page. CFDG offers a range of paid for conferences and training courses throughout the year, for which members’ delegate rates are usually discounted by about 30% from the normal rates for other non-member charities. Also members’ colleagues can benefit from a reduced rate for attendance at CFDG events.

If there is more than one member from your organisation you will need to liaise with your colleagues to make sure that you only pay one membership at the full rate and take full advantage of the discounts offered on subsequent members.
