CFDG VAT Exchange

What is it all about?

VAT Exchange is a quarterly interactive seminar dedicated to exploring and clarifying VAT issues affecting charities.  Each session lasts between 50 and 75 minutes, and is led by an experienced presenter.  The key difference between this format, and the usual "VAT lecture" is that this is interactive, and participants are encouraged to raise questions, voice their experiences, and share their knowledge.  The session also acts as a networking opportunity as drinks and other refreshments are served after the seminar and it may be possible to speak to the session leaders personally.

Who provides the service?

haysmacintyre, a well respected charity specialist firm of auditors and VAT/tax advisers, host the sessions which are run by a combination of people within their VAT unit, often with a significant input from the VAT partner who is well known from his articles in the Charity Finance Yearbook, and Charity Finance Magazine.

Does attendance bring any obligations?

This activity is free of charge to CFDG members. haysmacintyre, who have been long-standing subscribers to CFDG, undertake to not use your time in the sessions to promote themselves. The session is focused on the topic in hand, and on dealing with your issues. However, there is an obligation to come with an open mind, and it is preferable to come prepared to ask questions, and to contribute any knowledge or experience that you may have had in the area.

How do we know if it is relevant?

CFDG will inform you of the subject matter sufficiently in advance of the session for you to decide whether or not the subject has any interest for you.  The title allocated to each session should make that fairly clear, but you can always phone haysmacintyre and ask to speak to a member of the VAT team who will seek to give further clarification before you make your decision.  As the session also commonly deals with "hot news", it could be said that almost every session is relevant to many charity executives.  Topics allocated to forthcoming sessions:

18 September 2006 - One-off fundraising events and sales of donated goods
06 December 2006 - VAT on committed giving programmes
